Where Does The Money Go?

Twice Baked Century is an annual cycling event created to support a grass-roots effort by local mental health professionals to develop a comprehensive, up-to-date database of hard-to-find local and national mental health resources.

While numerous well-intentioned organizations and individuals have created databases of mental health resources before now, due to the unreliable availability and allocation of funding for mental health services, many of these have become quickly obsolete. Only through an automated update system is it possible to ensure viability of the data.

“Beginning with the movement of patients from institutions to community-based care, maneuvering the public/private maze of the mental health system has been challenging at best—fatal at worst,” said Michael Banov, MD, Medical Director of PsychAtlanta and Founder and Principal of Psychsource, Inc.

The creation of such a large and complex database that will remain technologically relevant is a lofty goal, but one we are determined to see to fruition.

By choosing a cycling event, the hope is also to create more awareness around the role exercise can take in mental health and in the treatment of mental illness.
